Tips of the Month
Snowdrops and Winter Aconites
Toward the end of this month you might start to see snowdrops and winter aconites you planted in September blooming in protected sunny spots around the yard. Spring is just around the corner!

Tune Up Garden Equipment
This is a good month to tune up your lawnmower and roto-tiller. Sharpen the blade, and change the filters. If you haven’t done so yet, sharpen your shovels and hoes using a coarse file as well as spraying with a light coating of WD40 to ward off rust.

Garden Expositions
Plan on attending at least one of the many Garden Expositions that are advertised this time of the year. Check out the latest plants and gardening gizmos. Attend a few of the many lectures that are offered to gardeners in anticipation of the upcoming gardening season.

Visit Your Local Garden Store
Chase away the winter blues! Visit your local garden store. Shelves and tables will be packed with pansies, primulas, flowering bulbs, cinerarias, heavily scented herbs and a variety of dish gardens. Bring a few home and enjoy a breath of spring. Now is the time to start seeds such as salvia and dusty miller. Cut a few branches of forsythia or pussy willow for bringing indoors and forcing. Simply place them in a container of water and set them in a warm bright window.
